Interestelar TWALKING HABITS (UK)

Clinical evidence shows that walking 20 minutes a day reduces your risk of serious illness including coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, dementia, COPD, stroke and cancer, and you will actually lower your risk of an early death by up to 30%. Walking can also boost self-esteem, lift your mood, improve sleep and reduce the risk of dementia, stress and clinical depression.

In 2023, patients from GP practices in Enfield are invited to join us for FREE in an exciting new activity; to VIRTUALLY walk from the SCAFELL PIKE -the highest peak in England- to BEN NEVIS (the highest peak in UK) and carry on Twalking up to Dunnet Head Lighthouse, the northernmost point in the island of Great Britain.

Twalking is for Everyone

(Participants with physical or mental long-term conditions, carers…)

Teams of three, virtually walking together while discovering the beauty of our streets and parks in the borough.

In this challenge, you can upload your daily outdoor-walking activity into our app.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

If you are the main carer for someone who is ill, you are a smoker, overweight or have a long-term condition such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or if you have a chronic illness like Parkinson’s, COPD, osteoarthritis, had a stroke, dementia, depression, schizophrenia, anxiety… you are entitled to participate for FREE.

Remember! The less you are doing now, the more benefit you will gain by just walking few minutes a day.

HOW?

All you need is a mobile phone and two additional people to make a team of three, and then, fill in the registration form above.

Make a team with friends, colleagues, family or a neighbour, someone you care about and you want to help increasing their daily walks.

Health care professionals, social workers, and the voluntary sector will also participate in this twalk and will help you to achieve your goal!

REGISTRATION FORM

Think of a cool name and a beautiful picture to represent your team. 

When you have a team of 3 participants, your captain can complete the TWALKING REGISTRATION FORM.

Few days later your GP practices will contact each of the three participants to do a basic health check and to confirm if your team meets the twalking requirements.
